Home. Many of us have said "I am just taking a break".. We all have. But what are we truly saying? Are we saying that we are going back to a place where we are comfortable, or are we saying we need recoup our energy so we can keep moving forward? There is a huge difference.
In this great nation of ours, we have a huge strong work ethic that has made this country prosperous. But one of the things that it has created is a lack of rest from work. I believe this puts a strain on people to have a works a mentality; meaning you're not significant if you're not doing something. But if you work from rest, then you are working from not pleasing anyone or even your self!! One thing I also noticed is that when you truly rest, you may not be thinking of work but an idea will come up and what would usually take hours to figure out only takes minutes to solve. While walking in rest you are always moving forward.
Some people don't want to rest though. Rather they want to give up and not move on. Take a look at Israel and Egypt.
Numbers 14: 1-4
1That night all the people of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. 2All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this desert! 3Why is the LORD bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?” 4And they said to each other, “We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt.”
Heres a people that after 400 years of slavery, the Lord was taking them to the promise land. Even then, they were asking to to back to Egypt. Do we say that today? Lets say you moved to another state, and its becoming more difficult, do you move back because you knew how to deal with the pain back home... ? It's called comfort zone.
The best way I can give a picture of this is in football. When your team takes a time out, you're resting and planning to make a touch down. You're not planning to the next great punt to the other team so you can feel safe..
